SEAGEMS NORWAY BECOMES MEMBER OF UNITED NATIONS GLOBAL COMPACT

Sustainable business is better business

ÅLESUND, NORWAYJune 12th  — Seagems Norway is pleased to announce that it has become a member of the UN Global Compact (UNGC). Seagems Norway is a strong supporter of the UN Global Compact’s Ten Principles on Human Rights, Labor, Environment and Anti-CorruptionThe Ten Principles strongly aligns with our company’s strategy, operations, and culture, and we look forward to engaging in collaborative projects with the UNGC and its members to further advance responsible business practices, particularly on the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Seagems Norway is convinced that tomorrow’s companies are those that remain relevant for the betterment of society and the environment. We see the Ten Principles not as an addon feature, but as an integral part of our businessextending to our own suppliers.

Environment
Seagems Norway is a biomarine company producing seafood ingredients for the global food industry. Through optimal utilization of side streams from fisheries in a way that reduces the carbon footprint in production and transportation we provide nutritious, tasty and sustainable ingredients to billions of meals across the world. The well-being of our oceans is therefore the basis of our business

Human Rights
Seagems Norway has a global reach and naturally sees it as part of our responsibility to advance human rights, such as the UN Declaration of Human Rights and the standards promoted by the International Labor Organization (ILO). Not only do we ensure that our own conduct is in accordance with these standards, but we actively promote them to our suppliers, building strong and lasting relations.

Corruption
Seagems Norway is against all forms of corruption and we are committed to working actively to ensure that this does not exist in our company, nor tolerated with our suppliers. Seagems Norway has therefore developed a specific guideline that deals with, amongst others, expected ethical behavior for all employees and management. We have also developed a whistleblowing policy and routine to detect unethical behavior in the organization.

Community contribution
Seagems Norway sources its raw materials globally, and in many cases this means from areas and communities where fishery is the cornerstone industry. These fishery communities are often highly vulnerable to fluctuations in the world economy with low job security. Our goal is to bring new business with increased income from side streams to secure more jobs and a sustainable future for these fishery communities.

In its majority, our seafood ingredients are applied to staple foods of great importance to many households, especially in low-income areas of the world. With a twofold impact through great taste and important nutrients, our ingredients enrich the lives and health of millions of people globally.

Becoming a member of the UN Global Compact is a logical step for Seagems Norway as it underlines our stated commitment to accelerate the transition towards a sustainable future. We look forward to working with like-minded companies and organizations to promote and to contribute to the UNGC Ten Principles and the Sustainable Development Goals”
